VENDOR STUDY

There are six vendors in our micro area. What’s interesting is that every vendor is doing something else. There is no similarity in their work.

SHOE MENDER

  • Arrives at 9 a.m., has a fixed spot next to the Nehru place map.
  • Sweeps his place clean with a bamboo broom before commencing work.
  • He then sets his sitting arrangement. He sits on uncomfortable granite slabs and tiles.
  • He then sets his apparatus- Shoe wax polish, liquid polish, thread, needle, brushes, spare slippers, extra shoe lace, chisels etc.
  • Provides customer service – Shoe mending and Shoe polishing.

2. TEA VENDOR

  • Arrives at 6:30 a.m.
  • Location- On the stairs of the market entry opposite Chiranjiv Tower entry.
  • He sets up his stove, kettles, ingredients, food items, glasses etc.
  • Morning customer- Office goers, old people from the locality coming regularly.
  • In the afternoon- Youth, labour class, employees working in offices nearby
  • Along with tea he sells food items like bread, biscuit, and rusk.

3.SHIRT VENDOR

Arrives at 1 p.m.
Location- On the stairs right next to Satyam.
Sells male shirts- striped, checks, plain solid colors.
He keeps the shirts in blue large polythene bags and removes them as per the customer demands. Also he displays a few shirts out on top of the polythene bags to attract customers.
Customers are mostly men.

4. LEMON DRINK VENDOR

Arrives at 9 a.m.
Location- On the main road
Sets up his trolley cart.
Cleans it, fills water.
Sets materials- glasses, ice. Procures soda bottles from supplier daily on rental basis.
Sells one glass for Rs.15
5. CIGARETTE VENDOR

Arrives at 9:40 a.m.
Sets up his cart
Sells items like- cigarettes, tobacco, pan
Customers- Employees, students, Market goers.
